BlackBerry Trend

Overview of BlackBerry Bold 9700
The BlackBerry Bold original handset is a great handset that many fans of the brand have enjoyed. Unfortunately, even the best smartphones end up becoming a little bit out-of-date because technology changes so quickly in the world of mobile phones. The solution to this problem is to keep the best things about the old handset but update devices with new technology as it becomes available. That’s exactly what has been done with the BlackBerry Bold. The new version of the handset has everything that the old one did and more. There are some cool new features that keep in line with the hottest new features in the smartphone world. Additionally, the design of the BlackBerry Bold has been streamlined so that this new handset is lighter, thinner and offers a better display than the previous version of the phone.
Outstanding Features of BlackBerry Bold 9700
The best features of the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 are essentially the same great features that could be found on the original BlackBerry Bold but they’ve been improved and made more up to date. Those features include:
BlackBerry Platform. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is made using the new BlackBerry OS 5.0 platform. This is the kind of platform that is designed specifically for the type of business productivity users that were the original fans of the brand. It has terrific functions in the area of advanced calendars and email management. However this browser isn’t just good for the business user; it also offers a terrific web browsing experience using fast JavaScript and CSS processing. High-quality mobile video streaming (and music streaming) as well as advanced mobile web features are important characteristics of the high-quality browser and fast processor on this device.
Advanced media player. The media player that is built into the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is one that is simple to use but advanced in functionality. It has features for music as well as for videos and pictures. The music playing time on the new device has been extended from the old device and now lasts nearly 40 hours! The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is capable of syncing with a variety of other programs including Desktop Managers and iTunes so you can easily access your music library no matter which type of computer you might be using in conjunction with your phone.
Advanced GPS. One of the best things about this phone is that is has advanced GPS features that are integrated with BlackBerry Maps. This makes it really easy for you to use your phone to locate things in your area and to get around easily in any place where you might find yourself. It also makes it easy to do fun things with geotagging for photos and use on social networks.

Advanced apps. Phone applications are one of the most important features on any smartphone today. Of course the BlackBerry Bold 9700 is easily linked to the BlackBerry App store. The store offers so many new applications compared to what was offered when the original Bold was first released. This makes it easy to customize your phone with all of the features that you most want it to have.
Improved call quality. One of the things that smartphone handset makers often seem to forget about is the fact that mobile phones are actually used for making calls. They do great with the design of the phone itself but fail to make the phone capable of placing high-quality phone calls. This is one area where the BlackBerry Bold 9700 really stands out from other mobile phones. It is designed with advanced call quality features including a very good speakerphone function and the technology to easily suppress background noise. It is also designed to have all of the features of a full-feature desktop phone which is something that business users on the go will really appreciate about this handset. Imagine that; a smartphone that actually makes good calls as well!
Other BlackBerry Bold 9700 Features
Other notable features of the new BlackBerry 9700 Bold include:
Built-in Camera. The camera on the BlackBerry 9700 Bold is adequate although it’s not an outstanding feature of the phone. It’s only 3.2 megapixels which is an average camera phone. However it does have some advanced features including autofocus, variable zoom and video recording capabilities.
Wi-Fi. You would expect a phone like this to have built in Wi-Fi and you’d be right. It also has support for Wi-Fi calling via UMA where this is available.
IM and social networking site features. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 supports a large number of different IM/chat functions so that you can send instant messages from the handset with ease. It also has built-in social networking specific for BlackBerry users (such as Facebook for BlackBerry).
Good memory. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has 256 MB of Flash memory. It also has a strong microSF/ SFHD memory card slot. It comes with a 2GB memory card at the time of purchase but memory can be extended up to 16GB. When 32 GB memory cards become available, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 will be capable of supporting them.
Bluetooth 2.1. Any smartphone really must have Bluetooth capability these days. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 does. This Bluetooth system has support for Secure Simple Pairing which makes it easy to use with any Bluetooth device that you might be interested in using.
Great battery life. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has a rechargeable, replaceable 1500 mAhr battery. This battery provides six straight hours of talk time and can last in standby mode for 17 days when it is in 3G mode. That’s a good length of time for a smartphone battery to last these days when so many advanced handsets have poor battery quality because their advanced features drain the device.
Design of BlackBerry Bold 9700. In addition to the key features and secondary features of the BlackBerry Bold 9700, this new smartphone is getting a lot of attention for its great design. It is one of the sleekest, thinnest, lightest, best-designed smartphones to hit the market to date. Even the battery cover on this handset, made of an easy-to-remove leatherette material, is sleek in its design. Important characteristics of the terrific design of this new phone include:
Super lightweight. This phone weighs in at just 4.3 ounces which makes it one of the lightest smartphones on the market. This is particularly appealing to BlackBerry fans that love the phones but wish that they came in a less chunky design. Now they can have it all!
Small in size. In addition to being lightweight, the phone is a sleek and compact device. It measures less than 4.3″ x 2.4″ x O.6 inches. It’s easy to hold, easy to fit into a pocket and comfortable to use.
Great display. In spite of the small size of this smartphone it still manages to offer a terrific display screen for all of your multimedia needs. It has a 2.44″ display that is offered at a resolution of 480 x 360. That’s the highest resolution available on any BlackBerry phone to date and matches one of the best displays out there – the BlackBerry Storm 2. It’s a light-sensing display which means that you’re able to see it just about anywhere regardless of the light levels around you.
Accurate QWERTY keyboard. BlackBerry fans tend to love the QWERTY keyboard and they’ll be happy with the one that’s included on the BlackBerry Bold 9700. It’s a full keyboard that is designed with really well-shaped, well-placed keys which makes it simple and easy to use accurately.
Trackpad. If you’re the kind of person who loves the touch aspects of a smartphone’s design then you’ll like the trackpad on the BlackBerry Bold 9700. It’s a touch-sensitive trackpad that moves easily and smoothly so that you can navigate the phone with ease.
Integration of important keys into the design. The BlackBerry Bold 9700 has dedicated volume controls (including a Mute key) and other important keys built into the design of the handset right across the top of it. These are streamlined into the design of the phone so that you barely notice them but they enhance the functionality of the device. A 3.5 mm stereo headset jack is also built seamlessly into the phone’s design.

Available in many different colours. Do you want your BlackBerry phone to be pink or blue or some other outstanding pretty colour? That’s an option for the design of this new handset. You have to go through a service called ColorWare to get this feature of the design. You can either purchase your handset and send it to them for colouring, or you can purchase the coloured handset directly through them.
Drawbacks of BlackBerry Bold 9700
There are only two major complaints that people seem to have about the BlackBerry Bold 9700 so far and neither of them would be an issue for people who truly like the original BlackBerry Bold. Those complaints are:
1. It’s a BlackBerry. The people who don’t like this new phone are primarily people who don’t particularly like the BlackBerry brand to begin with. If you’re someone who loves the iPhone or wants the new Android phones then this phone might not be your first choice purely because it’s a BlackBerry. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who want the new device specifically because of this fact.
2. It’s not particularly innovative. A more serious complaint seems to be that the phone isn’t particularly innovative. It’s the same as the BlackBerry Bold just better. It’s sleeker in its design and it’s got the advances that weren’t available when the first phone was released (better memory, better battery, better screen resolution) but it’s not unique in any superior way. Of course, something doesn’t have to be innovative to be great, right?
Summary
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a great smartphone for those people who are already fans of the original BlackBerry Bold. It’s got everything that the original phone had but it’s offered in a better package with some new bonus features. This may not be the smartphone for everyone since, let’s face it; not everyone is a BlackBerry fan. However it’s a great phone that stands out as one of the better smartphone releases of 2009.
